Summary:

This article enhances the scholarly discourse with findings of a 2024 archaeological research deployed at kurgan burial mound 4 near Blagoslovenka Village in the Central Orenburg Region. The cemetery consists of two kurgans. One of them is a circle wall-shaped structure. The archaeological data distinguishes three stages of the cemetery functioning. The first stage took place in 400s–300s BC and included construction of the circle structure, namely kurgan 2. This kurgan contains numerous animal bones and several sacrificial sets. Among the sacrificial sets, the most outstanding is set No. 2 since it includes a bronze caldron, horse harness fragments, bronze arrowheads, a spearhead, a quiver hook and more. According to the ritual's peculiarities and archaeozoological data, the circle structure in question is situated close enough to the structure near Perevolotskiy Village researched in 2013 by N.L. Morgunova. The neighbouring site is also located in the Central Orenburg Region. Both sites are interpreted as sanctuaries of the Solar Cult. The second stage took place in the 1st century BC through the 1st century AD. It features transformation of the ritual structure of kurgan 2 into the funeral and commemoration site. It hosted secondary children's graves. Also, the second stage features construction of kurgan 1 with tools typical for the turn of the eras (iron arrowheads, a molded vessel). The third stage took place in the 5th through the 6th century AD. It features secondary graves in kurgan 1. The graves reveal tools typical for the Hunnic times (a horn-rimmed tack buckle, ornamented bone plates for bows). The bodies in the graves were positioned headed north. The bow from grave 1 has one of the most complete sets of plates in the Volga-Ural steppe. It includes insert plates and wedged inserts. The archaeological data are completed by the findings obtained during restoration of the archaeological items and during anthropological and osteological collections processing. These findings allow comprehensive consideration of the peculiarities of the burial rite, tangible culture, household and views of the people who left the researched cemetery behind.
