The paper presents data of the Early Palaeolithic Yarovo site discovered in Transdniestria (Moldova) in 1987 and studied in 1988 and 1989. The work was carried out by the Transdniestrian Paleolithic Detachment of the Leningrad Branch of the Institute of Archaeology of the USSR Academy of Sciences (headed by N.K. Anisyutkin). Stone artifacts of the Early Paleolithic appearance were discovered in the Middle Pleistocene deposits of the high terrace of the Dniester River. Unfortunately, the layer with archaeological finds extends to the territory of an old mid-19th century cemetery, so the research was forced to be limited to exposures on its outskirts. It was established that the cultural layer was significantly disturbed by erosion processes, but not redeposited. In total, more than 250 artifacts were obtained from a total area of about 10 square meters. The artifacts list 84 tools and 42 cores. The complex of flint tools belongs to the final stage of the Early Paleolithic, having a special similarity with the regional Tayacian of the Douroitoare Veche. Several pebble tools in the collection and specific technical and morphological indicators give grounds to attribute this industry to the late stage of development of a pebbleflake technocomplex of the East European Plain. This technocomplex is traced in this territory until the first half of the Middle Paleolithic. The research materials of this site have previously been published only in a preliminary form. The proposed paper uses new data that have been obtained over the recent years. These data concern Paleolithic archaeology and especially Quaternary geology. They allow us to obtain a more complete picture of the chronology and specificity of the stone industry of the monument.
