This paper for the first time publishes and analyzes materials obtained during the study of the Scythian burial 3 of the barrow 13 of the “Sad” (‘Garden’) group located near Glinoe village, Slobodzeya region, on the left bank of the Lower Dniester. Description of the of the barrow and the grave: Burial 3 was the main in the barrow 13. It was surrounded by a ring ditch with two breaches oriented along the line West-North-West – East-South-East. Later two more burials were sunk in the burial mound. Burial 3 was made in a catacomb with a hexagon-shaped entrance well. The entrance to the burial chamber was closed with a cover made of some organic material (cloth or mat) and framed by wooden poles. The grave contained: animal bones from the two portions of sacrificial food, iron awl and knife, a wooden plate, a handmade pottery jug, two lead finials, burnt stone slab and pebbles and a quiver set consisting of 41 bronze arrowheads. The quiver was suspended from the hook, attached to the ceiling of the chamber. Data analysis: Characteristics of the handmade pottery jug found in the burial indicate the influences of the Thracian culture on the material culture of the Scythians of the North-Western Black Sea region. The discovery of the finials away from the human body allows to suggest that they were attached to the ends of the cords used to draw the edges of the entrance cover over the wooden poles in order to prevent the penetration of soil into the burial chamber. Another artifact deserving special attention is the all-iron knife with a pommel in the form of a feline predator. One can exactly distinguish its ear, eye and mouth with bared teeth. Direct analogues of this item have been discovered far from the Lower Dniester region. To be more specific, three knives with the pommels of similar type were found in the Western Bel’sk settlement located on the left bank of the steppe Dnieper region. Burial dating: Based on the characteristics the bronze arrowheads discovered in the burial it dates back to to the end of the 5th century BC. Final remarks: Materials from the burial Glinoye / “Sad” (‘Garden’) 13 / 3 and some other Scythian graves located on the left bank of the Lower Dniester clearly demonstrate that despite the Thracian influences on their material culture Scythian peoples of the North-Western Sea region had kept their unique and indigenous cultural identity not only until the second half of the 5th century BC, but also in the next three centuries.
