Ufa Archaeological Herald

The article presents data on all known to date settler monuments of nomads of second half of I millennium BC, located in the mountain-forest zone of the southern part of the Urals mountain country, especially in the mountain valley of the upper reaches of the White river. Features of ceramics allow us to date them by the end of V – IV centuries BC. We can say that the mountain zone absorbed mainly nomads from the steppes of South Ural. Judging by the paleoecological data, the penetration of nomads 50-100 kilometers into the mountains occurred during a period of strong dessication on mountain forests; modern forests in this area have appeared much later. Varied topography, diverse nature of monuments and their widespread use in the southern part of the mountain area indicate the formation during the second half of the I millennium BC of a special economic-cultural type nomadic of mountain-steppe zone dwellers with a complex pastoral-hunting way of life and living in small groups.
